Want to add some personality to your clothes? Clothes embroidery patches are the way to go! They’re fun, durable, and perfect for everything from jackets to jeans. Whether you’re covering a hole, showing off your style, or branding a uniform, these patches make your clothing stand out.
At True Digitizing, we’ve been in the embroidery digitizinggame for years, and patches are one of our favorites.
In this blog post, we’ll cover the best fabric for patches, how they look on jackets, ways to attach them, and why our custom patch service in the USA is a top choice. Let’s dive in and get your clothes patched up right.
The fabric you pick for your clothes embroidery patches matters. It’s got to hold the stitches and look good. Here are some top choices:
Cotton Twill: Tough and smooth, it’s the go-to for most patches. It takes dense stitching well. Think 1,200 stitches per square inch and lasts forever.
Felt: Soft and thick, great for bold, simple designs. It’s cheaper too, around $2-$3 per yard in 2025.
Denim: Sturdy and textured, perfect for a rugged vibe. It’s awesome for jacket patches.
Polyester: Lightweight and resists fading. Ideal if your patch will face sunlight or washing.
Whatever you choose as your favorite fabric, make sure it’s not too stretchy, as knits can mess up your design.
Jackets and clothes embroidery patches are a match made in heaven. They add flair and toughness to denim, leather, or bomber styles. You can go big like a 10” back patch of a cool logo or small, like a 3” sleeve design. Denim jackets love heavy twill patches with tight stitching (75%-100% coverage), while leather looks slick with felt or suede-backed ones. A 2025 trend report says jacket patches are up 15% in popularity. Everyone’s rocking them! Place them on the chest, sleeves, or back for that custom look that turns heads.

Sticking clothes embroidery patches on is easy once you know how. Here’s how to do it for different spots, right/left chest, front/back center, and right/left sleeves:
Iron-On: Heat your iron to medium (no steam), press the patch for 20-30 seconds, and let it cool. Works best on cotton or denim. Test first.
Sew-On: Use a needle and thread (or a machine) for a permanent stick. Go around the edge with a tight zigzag stitch. Takes 5-10 minutes but lasts forever.
Adhesive: Peel-and-stick glue for a quick fix. Good for light fabrics but not as strong long-term.
For the chest (right or left), keep it 3”-4” wide so it sits neatly. Front or back? Bigger patches (6”-10”) shine here. Center it up for balance, and on sleeves (right or left), 2”-3” wide fits without bunching. Sew-on is my go-to; nothing beats that solid feel.
